Top 10 Rock Vocalists...

We all have our differing opinions on things like this, however my list is definitely the best you'll find on the net!!

1. Eddie Vedder - Pearl Jam

2. Shawn Smith - Brad, Satchel, Solo

3. Layne Stayley - Alice In Chains, Mad Season

4. Maynard James Keenan - Tool, A Perfect Circle

5. Scott Weiland - Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver, Solo

6. Jeff Buckley

7. Prince

8. Axl Rose - Guns 'n' Roses

9. Caleb Followill - Kings Of Leon

10 Glen Hansard - The Frames, Solo

Honourable mentions to Gavin Rossdale (Bush) and Kelly Jones (Stereophonics) for having the sexiest gruffest voices in rock. Robert Smith (the Cure) for having possible the most distinct voice in rock. Anthony Kiedis (RHCP) and Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits, solo) for having the worst live voices in rock and James Taylor for having the crispest and cleanest voice in rock (soft rock!). And also to Brad Roberts (Crash Test Dummies) for having the deepest voice in rock and to Bono for keeping his voice for this long. oh and I should also give respect to Scott Stapp (Creed), Bob Dylan and Dave Mustaine (Megadeath) for getting away with their rubbish voices for so long.

Eddie Vedder #1? Huh. I was thinking real hard about putting him especially since he's from the grunge era. You know truthfully he should go on my list but I remember that I make fun of him too much. He does too many strange things with his voice like Dave Matthews does (who I also like but also make fun of) and I couldn't in good conscience put someone on there that I also make fun of. But yeah the dud can straight sing.

I also thought about Layne Stayley. He almost got on there too. Wife is a big AIC fan. Kind of depressing though.

Maynard almost made it on my list too but I've been rather repulsed by his latest stuff with Tool the last few years.

I haven't heard of a number of the people like #2, #9 and #10. The only one I would disagree with is Axl. I think he is way to nasal to sound good. I like some G&R, don't get me wrong but that would be like putting Billy Corgan on the lists (I love Smashing Pumpkins too).

I honestly thought you were gonna put Bono at #1.

Good honorable mentions! Especially your last category. LOL

yeah a lot of people seem to make fun of e.v. but I do think he has an incredible voice. I think most people started to make fun of him after all the copy cats came out of the woodwork - creed, staind etc, and third day :o).

I hope your wife has heard of Mad Season as well as AIC, that album is incredible. Layne can sing and write some incredibly depressing lyrics!

I kindof agree about Axl, however there aren't many artists who when you sing them you HAVE to mimmick them. ohwouwo sweet child of myeeeeyine!!!!!

Very true about Maynard. I have listened to the song Judith once and have refused to listen to it ever since. and some of their stuff is very dark. however, the new album has some incredibly interesting lyrics on it. He is definitely a man who is angry at God, but perhaps a man searching too. It's just a shame when he brings sarcasm and nasty humour and venom to the table.

the album title 10,000 days is about his mothers 27 year paralysis before her death. he has a huge problem with the people he saw in his mothers church who he felt were hypocrites.
“Ignorant fibbers in the congregation gather around me spewing sympathy. Spare me. None of them can hold a candle up to you.”

interesting when he says of his mother perhaps talking about himself (surely saved one) “Should you see the Maker’s face tonight… tell him: ‘I never lived a lie, never took a life, but surely saved one.’ Hallelujah, it’s time for you to bring me home.”

in the song Jambi he says “The Devil and his had me down. In love with the dark side I’d found… But you changed that all for me. Lifted me up, turned me round… Shine on benevolent Son.”

only problem is maynard could be completely mocking the whole thing. I don't know. however, he still has an incredible voice.

Are you sure you haven't heard the Kings Of Leon?
Glen Hansard is the guy who won the oscar this year for best song in a movie - i kinda hate that song, however you should get his album 'dance the devil' by his band 'The Frames', it's a brilliant album.

oh and you need to hear some shawn smith - especially Brad's first album. it's amazing. his voice is definitely one of the most unknown amazing voices in rock.

I think if you asked Edie and Axl and just about anyone else if they compared to Freddie Mercury's voice they would look at you as if you were insane...
